Dozens of Cases
Buster Skrine, who was arrested on Wednesday, faces more than a dozen fraud charges. The former New York Jets defensive back is accused of taking more than $100,000, police say. The Durham Regional Police Department said Skrine had contact with several financial institutions where he identified himself as a retired NFL player. He used to open bank accounts along with fake checks and get a portion of the money before clearance.

The arrest took place at Pearson International Airport in Mississauga, just outside Toronto. “DRPS fraud investigators, along with Homeland Security Investigations, U.S. Customs Border Protection Peel Regional Police, arrested him so he could not go to the U.S. Currently, Sirkine faces 15 criminal charges, Durham Police said. Sirkine faces four counts of fraud over $5,000, seven counts of making false statements to obtain money, three counts of possession of property by fraud over $5,000, and one count of possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 of the case.

The suspect the police arrested was Darrell Frank (Buster) Skrine, who was actually Buster Skrine, who was traveling under a false name and documents. A complex fraud scheme involving many financial institutions was under investigation.
Investigators from the Financial Crimes Unit said they were investigating a man who had been defrauding multiple banks by posing as a retired NFL player. A Durham police sergeant says he used to cash the money using fake cheques.
